On Friday, August 6th, GM announced that they will be considering adding several new products to their vehicle line up. Yes, this is in addition to the Chevrolet Volt and Cruze which are brand new this year.
GM is considering bringing back the mini-van! (Yes!) Several years ago (2008) GM did away with the Uplander, saying that people were more interested in the SUV type vehicles. Well-this year alone 266,000 mini vans have been purchased by consumers….Honda, Toyota and and Chrysler are all dominating the market.
GM says that they want something different though. They are pulling away from the typical American-style minivan and looking into something, well, a little more European. They are looking into perhaps styling a minivan after the Opel Zafira, which is built on the platform of a Chevy Cruze (below).
GM is also considering adding a new mid-size pick up truck to their product line up. Both the Colorado and GMC Canyon are to be phased out in 2012.
So, what do you think?
Should GM go back to the Mini-Van?
