Jack Maxton Chevrolet Hopes to help Olentangy Youth Athletic Association score big

Jack Maxton Chevrolet teams up with Olentangy Youth Athletic Association to help raise thousands of dollars for youth soccer program

Worthington (September 23,  2010) – In the spirit of teamwork taught by youth sports, Jack Maxton Chevrolet is teaming up with Olentangy Youth Athletic Association to provide their players and coaches with soccer kits filled with equipment bags, soccer balls, sport cones, practice jerseys and t-shirts, a monetary donation and an opportunity to help them raise funds.

Olentangy Youth Athletic Association will have the opportunity to raise as much as $10,000 through a fundraising opportunity where one lucky recipient will win his or her choice of a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox or Malibu. Another lucky winner will receive a Home Entertainment Package.

Jack Maxton Chevrolet and other Columbus, OH-area Chevrolet dealerships are donating these prizes to participating leagues in the area. One-hundred percent of the proceeds go directly to the leagues, and they can use the funds in any way they choose.

Some leagues plan to grant scholarships to families who cannot afford to enroll their children in the league, while others will use the funds to improve fields and equipment.

“We are proud to be able to help the kids in our community by donating equipment and giving them the opportunity to raise much-needed funds for their league. We are excited to be part of the effort this year, and anticipate a fun-filled season with Olentangy Youth Athletic Association,” said Suzanne Williams of Jack Maxton Chevrolet.

A one-time monetary donation check will be presented by Jack Maxton Chevrolet to Olentangy Youth Athletic Association.  The league also will have an opportunity to raise additional funds for their use as part of a Chevrolet Youth Soccer Fundraiser.  Sponsored leagues across the country will each receive 2,000 fundraiser entry tickets to distribute for a suggested donation, and the league will keep 100% of proceeds raised.  At the end of the fundraiser, there will be four winners of a Chevy Equinox or Chevy Malibu vehicle of choice (up to $24,995 in value), and in each participating market there will be a secondary prize of a home entertainment center valued at $1,000.

The new OnStar-Responsible Connectivity

This past week, OnStar launched a re-branding of its service with a long term focus on “responsible connectivity”. In addition, OnStar is planning to release several new technology upgrades to its already vast network of user enabled tools and services.

Some of the new technology upgrades include:

  • Audio Facebook Updates: OnStar showcased in-car social media interactions that are being tested.  If implemented, Audio Facebook Updates would allow OnStar subscribers to verbally update their Facebook status message through audio recordings and/or listen to their most recent news feed messages through the OnStar Virtual Advisor service.
  • Voice Texting: OnStar revealed beta tests for voice-based SMS (short message service).  This feature would enable customers to have their text messages read to them using Bluetooth.

The Bluetooth technology allows users to connect their mobile device to their vehicle and receive automated text messages. With one button press, on the steering wheel, users can reply to a text by verbally selecting a preset response.

OnStar will also be investing $500,000 to the International Center for Automotive Medicine (http://automotivemedicine.org) at the University of Michigan Health sytem for research related to the prediction of injury severity level after a crash.

The new OnStar campaign is committed to improving crash response innovations using a platform called First Assist. Certified Emergency Advisors will be able to provide guidance on anything from the delivery of a baby to life saving instruction after a severe car crash, until paramedics reach the scene.

OnStar’s campaign wants to improve the tools and resources available to customers, while also promoting safe “connection” methods (i.e. hands free driving). The campaign, created by OnStar’s ad agency Campbell-Ewald, will focus on the theme “Live On”– Safely connecting you in ways you never thought possible.”

OnStar is continuously searching for ways to improve the drivers experience and all the while, continuing to put safety first.

American Icons: Chevrolet & Baseball

Well into its 5th year, Chevrolet once again pitches in to help foster the hopes and dreams of kids who one day want to play in Major League Baseball. The Chevy Youth Baseball program is “a grassroots initiative that establishes a positive relationship between local dealers and the communities they serve.

Chevy Dealers sponsor their local youth baseball leagues as a part of Chevrolet’s nation-wide commitment to support youth sports, one community at a time.”

The program this year provided assistance to youth leagues in 28 states, with Chevrolet dealers contributing over $4 million to benefit nearly 40,000 teams and 600,000 players. .

Chevrolet, along with 1,000 of its dealerships, has expanded its support of youth baseball players in communities across the country through the Chevy Youth Baseball program. And over the past 5 years, dealers have helped raise more than $11 million.

Youth baseball leagues who participate in the program receive equipment and monetary donations, fundraisers to support their teams, MLB game tickets and the chance to participate in exclusive instructional clinics, all courtesy of Chevrolet dealers.

This year, Chevrolet partnered with Major League Baseball® , MLB Advanced Media  and The Scotts Company, the Official Lawn Care Company of MLB, to makeover five youth baseball fields throughout the U.S. in a campaign called ‘Building Diamonds and Dreams”.  Local communities entered for a chance to win the field makeover.  The following five winners were drawn from the entries submitted:

·         City of Mebane, N.C.
·         Pflugerville Little League, Pflugerville, Texas
·         Brownsburg Little League/Brownsburg Parks Department, Brownsburg, Ind.
·         Lakeside Little League, Granite Bay, Calf.
·         Weymouth Township, Mays Landing, N.J.

The five finalists who won the field makeover were also entered for a chance to win either a new Chevrolet Malibu, Traverse, Equinox or Silverado. The winner, who is from New Jersey, chose a new Traverse.

This year, Jack Maxton Chevrolet will be participating in a similar Chevrolet sponsored program called “Chevy Youth Soccer“.  The sponsored league, Olentangy Youth Athletic Association, will receive 10 equipment kits consisting of uniforms, t-shirts, cones, soccer balls,  and equipment bags. A presentation check of $500 will be awarded sometime at the end of September (we will keep you posted).  Then the league will get busy selling it’s fundraiser tickets, with the hope of raising $10,000 for the league. The grand prize for these tickets include, just as with the baseball program, a choice of a new car (Malibu or Equinox). The drawing will be held November 30, 2010. In addition to the main fundraiser, some of the kids in the soccer program will have an opportunity to participate in a special soccer clinic.

Join Jack Maxton’s & OYAA on their Facebook group page at, http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=101297099933599&ref=mf to follow along with the program and it’s associated contests.

Hot Hatch-The New Aveo

The sleek new design of the Aveo is getting some widespread attention. The car, expected to sell in US and Canada in 2011, appeals to a younger crowd looking for that sporty edge vehicle. Entering the highly competitive world grid of small car concepts, the Aveo is standing ground.

It’s design elements consist of a dynamic looking front with exposed twin-headlamps and Chevrolet’s signature dual port grille, compact taut body panels with a rising shoulder line and short rear overhangs,  rear door handles “hidden’ in the c-pillar and a ‘body in, wheels out’ profile. The new Aveo has a longer and wider body than the current model.

It has a surprisingly spacious interior with a motorcycle inspired instrument panel. The center console features subtle blue back lighting. The entire cabin space wraps around the driver and passenger in a futuristic space craft fashion. With more storage space, a modern sound system, included USB, auxiliary and blue tooth ports, what’s not to like? This car is sure to please.

Chevrolet’s first 6 speed automatic transmission on a small car, will be featured as in option in the European markets with the 1.4 or 1.6 liter engine.

At the Detroit Auto Show in January, Chevrolet General Manager, Jim Campbell, commented on the new Aveo-as well as the Spark and Cruze. These three cars are the future of the car industry.

“Our new small cars and the Volt electric vehicle with extended-range capabilities represent cornerstones in Chevrolet’s gas-friendly to gas-free approach,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet general manager. “We expect the trio of Spark, Aveo and Cruze to be fuel economy leaders, while the Volt can operate gas-free before switching to extended-range capability when the battery runs low.”

What do you think of the three new Chevy cars coming out?

The Key That Wont Get Lost

GM announced on Friday 9/3 that a new micro computer developed for the Buick LaCrosse knows when to lock & unlock your doors .  Sounds pretty sophisticated, huh? It is indeed. The new technology developed and tested by Dave Proefke, a General Motors technician, leads a team  that has worked to create an advanced wireless car key that automatically knows when to lock and unlock the doors on the 2011 Buick LaCrosse.

The computer attempts to “determine your intended action and perform that action for you” says Proefke. The new key doesn’t need a button or a keyhole. It sends out a constant stream of data to the vehicle that tells the vehicle where they key is located at all times. The vehicle  then knows whether to lock the doors or not.

Remember those days of getting the groceries out of your trunk and accidentally forgetting that you left your keys resting just inside…or perhaps those days when your car’s engine was running and you needed to get out of the vehicle for something, just to shut the door and here the “click” of the locking mechanism? Waiting for the lock smith seemed to take forever, especially if it was a in the cold of winter, not to mention the nice little chunk of change it cost you.

The new micro computer “knows” whether or not the key is present inside the car. If it is, theft-deterrent encrypted coding allows the vehicle to start. This new technology also removes many of the mechanical wiring and cylinder systems of the ignition key, making it much harder to steal.

If the Buick’s computer thinks the key has been left in the vehicle it will attempt to remind the driver. If the driver tries to manually lock the doors, a fob system will keep the doors unlocked.

Finally, a little peace of mind for the hectic and busy, who sometimes misplace little things…like car keys!
