Vehicle Profile: 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

A solid utility leader

Tow with it, haul a heavy load across the mountains or hook a snowplow to the front to clear the way – the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, available here at Jack Maxton Chevrolet in Worthington, Ohio, is built to work hard. It’s also a highly refined pickup truck that’s luxury-car quiet inside and filled with enhancements.

One thing is for sure, the Silverado (MSRP from $25,575) is highly configurable. Mix and match cab styles and box length to get your perfect pickup. Available trim levels run from work truck (WT) to luxury cruiser. The Silverado 1WT Regular Cab with standard-length box starts it off. An all-aluminum 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V6 provides power and efficiency thanks to standard direct injection, continuously variable valve timing and Active Fuel Management to deactivate cylinders when full power isn’t needed. The V6 provides 285 hp and 305 lb/ft of torque, and a six-speed automatic transmission is also standard. Other standard 1WT features include four-wheel disc brakes, 17-inch wheels and tires, power windows and locks, cruise control, and a front bench seat with fold-down center armrest. The CornerStep rear bumper and cargo area lamps are standard conveniences you won’t want to live without, either.

The 2WT trim adds the Chevy MyLink radio with a 4.2-inch screen and Bluetooth®, plus OnStar and a six-month trial of Directions & Connections, SiriusXM Satellite Radio and HD Radio capability with a three-month free trial subscription, remote keyless entry, stainless-steel-clad wheels to coordinate with chrome front and rear bumpers and grille surround, as well as heated, power-adjustable exterior mirrors.

The Silverado LT includes the EZ-Lift and Lower® tailgate, Driver Information Center with 4.2-inch color display, cloth-covered 40/20/40-split front bench seat with lockable under-seat storage, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel and 17-inch machined aluminum wheels.

A Silverado LT Z71 is the one you want if paved roads are scarce. You get a Z71 Off-Road Suspension with monotube shock absorbers by Rancho®, all-terrain tires, Hill Descent Control and a locking rear differential. When equipped with 4WD, the Z71 Silverado has a transfer case shield, as well. The Z71 Appearance Package includes a unique front grille design, foglamps and recovery hooks, along with its own gauge cluster, interior trim plates and brushed metal “Z71” door plates.

Other cab and box configurations open the door to even more trim and equipment options. Go with a Double Cab and standard box to get access to the Silverado LTZ trim, which adds both power and luxury. Standard in the LTZ is a 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 that develops 355 hp and 383 lb/ft of torque. This all-aluminum V8 features direct injection and continuously-variable valve timing along with Active Fuel Management. The LTZ interior is luxurious appointed with leather-covered seating, 10-way power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, a power-sliding rear window, 110-volt outlet and rear-vision camera. The LTZ also features 18-inch machined aluminum wheels, foglamps and chrome door handles and mirror caps.

To the LTZ trim you can add the Z71 heavy-duty off-road suspension, with the monotube shocks by Rancho®, all-terrain tires, a transfer case shield (4WD), a locking rear differential and the Z71 Appearance Package.

The ultimate premium Silverado, the High Country, comes in Crew Cab configuration. The Silverado High Country is a highly versatile truck. It features four full-size doors, a spacious interior and either a short or long cargo box to meet your needs. The large cabin features premium, perforated leather upholstery and 12-way power adjustable heated and cooled front seats. A Bose® premium audio system and power-sliding rear window are also standard for the High Country trim. Front and Rear Park Assist help with maneuvering, as does a rearview camera. A unique chrome grille and 20-inch chrome wheels finish off the look, and an upgraded suspension conquers road irregularities with comfort and control.

Towing is a Silverado high point. With the 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V6 you can tow a maximum trailer weight of 5,800 pounds. If you need more, the 5.3-liter V8 is capable of hauling 11,300 pounds when equipped with the 3.73:1 rear axle. That’s a lot of capability to pack into a half-ton pickup, and the Silverado’s four-wheel disc brakes, robust frame and sophisticated engineering deliver that capability on a magic carpet of refinement.

In creating the new Silverado, Chevrolet engineers developed an entirely new body that results in exceptional comfort and quiet in the cabin. The doors nestle into the bodysides to keep wind noise down, and the cab rides on new mounts that absorb noise and vibration, even as the suspension copes with bad roads. With the new Silverado, the phrase “rides like a truck” is now a compliment.

The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado has all the bases covered. It can be a hard-working two-door pickup, or a hard-working and luxuriously outfitted four-door family truck. With a solid pair of engine choices and 4WD options to back you up, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish. With a thorough commitment to quality, the Silverado 1500 will get you and your stuff from here to there for many years to come, too.

Come in today to learn more about the 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500, and be sure to save time for a test drive or two.
