To cover all the bases, the Malibu (MSRP from $22,340) comes six ways. The Malibu LS carries a standard Ecotec® 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. With direct injection, this engine is a strong motivator, delivering 196 hp and 191 lb/ft of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is partnered with the engine, sending power to the front wheels. New fuel-saving engine stop/start technology is also standard, as is a revised suspension that improves ride and handling. While offering excellent passenger room, the Malibu is also efficient, delivering EPA-estimated fuel economy of 25 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. That kind of economy gets a lot of miles out of the standard 15.8 gallon fuel tank in the LS.
The Malibu LS also features 16-inch alloy wheels, a chrome-highlighted front grille, solar-absorbing glass and a six-speaker audio system with Bluetooth®. The driver gets treated to convenience features, too. The driver’s seat features two-way power height adjustment, and the multifunction steering wheel carries audio and cruise controls. The reassurance and convenience of OnStar® is standard, and a six-month trial of Directions & Connections services is included.
The Malibu 1LT enhances the driving experience with the addition of Chevrolet MyLink. MyLink puts you in control of your technology. The system pairs with your device and offers Bluetooth® streaming for audio. A seven-inch color touch-screen is your window into control of vehicle functions and infotainment, and it offers easy integration with apps like Pandora® and Stitcher™, plus USB connectivity and SiriusXM Satellite Radio. Using MyLink is as easy as talking to a co-pilot with its enhanced voice control by Nuance®, and it can even read text messages to you and respond with predetermined messages, helping you keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
The Malibu 2LT heads upscale. Standard 18-inch alloy wheels and foglamps enhance the exterior, and inside, you’ll find an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. A remote starter system is also standard.
While the 196-hp 2.5-liter ECOTEC® four-cylinder is plenty powerful, there’s a lot more muscle to be had beneath the hood of the Malibu 3LT. Featuring a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine with direct fuel injection and variable valve timing, the Malibu 3LT hits the road with 259 hp and a whopping 295 lb/ft of torque.
If you want your Malibu to be a luxury car, then the LTZ is for you. The Malibu 1LTZ treats you to heated leather seats and exterior enhancements that include 18-inch machine-spoke aluminum wheels, LED taillamps and chrome door handles. Want to combine all the luxury with all the performance? That’s the Malibu 2LTZ, which underscores all the standard luxury features with the direct injected and turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. Malibu 2LTZ trims also get a sunroof as standard equipment, as well.
Whichever Malibu you pick, they’ll all deliver comfortable accommodations for up to five occupants. Standard safety features include 10 airbags, Brake Assist, safety belt pretensioners, and the peace of mind of OnStar. A Rear Vision Camera is also available on its own or as part of the Power Convenience Package. Other packages include the Electronics and Entertainment Package, which includes a Pioneer® nine-speaker premium audio system, 120-volt power outlet and universal remote. The LTZ Premium Package features high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps, push-button access and keyless start with passive entry, and driver’s seat and power mirror memory. The Advanced Safety Package bundles Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Side Blind Zone Alert/Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and a Rear View Camera. So you’re never lost, the MyLink® system can be enhanced with navigation.
