Vehicle Preview: 2015 Chevrolet Trax

The next big thing is small

Crossovers are big and the biggest ones might be the smallest. The 2015 Chevrolet Trax will arrive soon here at Jack Maxton Chevrolet in Worthington, Ohio, giving you a Chevrolet option in the fast-expanding small crossover segment.

Big-league technology makes the five-passenger Chevrolet Trax stand out in the segment. Available features will include Siri Eyes Free, new OnStar 4G LTE with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, the latest generation of OnStar and Chevy MyLink, and the innovative BringGo navigation app that integrates with your smartphone.

The tidy Trax will offer serious occupant protection. A body structure that is 66 percent high-strength steel forms a protective cage around the cabin. Standard StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control works with traction control and features rollover mitigation, as well, to keep the Trax on-track. A standard rearview camera improves visibility when you back up, and 10 standard airbags include the only rear-seat-mounted thorax airbags in the segment.

When you slide behind the wheel of the 2015 Chevrolet Trax, you’ll be greeted by a dual-cockpit style instrument panel. In the middle, there’s a seven-inch high-resolution display for the infotainment system, rearview camera and available navigation app. The driver gets a bold set of gauges, including a large analog tachometer and digital readouts for other information.

Trim levels for the 2015 Chevrolet Trax will include LS, LT, and LTZ. Every Trax will feature a versatile 60/40-split/folding rear seat and storage galore with pockets in the seatbacks, cubbies in the doors, bins under the rear load area and even a storage drawer hidden under the front passenger seat. The front passenger seat can fold down to allow transport of items as long as eight feet, and the Trax can swallow up to 48.4 cubic feet of cargo.

Crisp styling that includes a dual-port grille and swept-back headlamps firmly place the Trax in the same family as the Sonic, Malibu and Impala. The exterior can be dressed up with front foglamps, front and rear trim that simulates skid plates, and your choice of ten available colors.

The front-wheel drive Trax gets you there courtesy of a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder that generates 138 hp and 148 lb/ft of torque. The torque is available from 1,850 to 4,900 rpm, which makes the Trax feel strong and confident. The compact 1.4-liter four-cylinder has its turbocharger integrated with the exhaust manifold for tidy packaging, and the cast crankshaft and forged connecting rods inside the engine are up to the task of creating power under pressure. The four-cylinder is paired with a Hydra-Matic 6T40 six-speed automatic transmission with TAPShift manual control. Intelligent All-Wheel Drive is available, as well, for enhanced traction and handling.

The Trax chassis is tuned for precise response and a refined experience. LS and LT trims ride on 16-inch wheels – steel on the LS and alloy on the LT. Trax LTZ trims carry 18-inch alloy wheels as standard equipment. The independent suspension features MacPherson struts in front with a beefy stabilizer bar. The rear suspension is a compact compound-crank torsion beam design, which leaves plenty of space for cargo, delivers consistent control over wheel motions, and weighs less than other designs.

The 2015 Chevrolet Trax small crossover is engineered to bring excellence and refinement to a fast-expanding segment. This segment of vehicles is the next big thing, and the Trax will lead the pack with performance and features that aren’t offered anywhere else.
